One of two plates Mucha designed for this distinguished series, depicting heroines of antiquity. Salomé is a sensuous, full frontal image in which the dancer is shown wearing ornate jewelry and a surprisingly complex, even abstract, veil. She is not depicted carrying the head of John the Baptist, but rather in the throes of the dance that gave Herod such great pleasure.
